"The Spider and the Yogini"
Blissful yogini, she was no meanie,
Chaturanga to Downward Dog.
Along came a spider, who sat down beside her,
Ahimsa? or Death by Clog??
Ahhhhhh Ahimsa. It means to do no harm, or non-injury in action, in thought, or in words. It is also referred to as nonviolence, and it applies to all living beings including animals. Big and small. So there i am in yoga, rocking my vinyasa, on my way through cobra to downward dog, i see him moving most velociously towards me. He stops at the edge of my mat, a drop of sweat nearly misses him, his eight eyes trying to make out my form. I gently blow in his direction to get him to move away. Then i oh so quietly began to reason with him, "you are welcome to stay right there sir, but please don't come on the mat OK?" he stayed for a few seconds and then tore off to my left. The yogi to my left wasted no time in grabbing her water bottle and without any hesitation,
slam! then SQUISH.
I literally let out a "ha!" and giggled under my breath. Today was not your day, spider.
He then became my intention, just kidding, but kind of seriously. He did bring ahimsa to the forefront of my mind for the rest of the day. I was nicer to that spider, than i am to myself some days. To be non-harming to others but also to self. Watch the words we say to our selves, for at times we are downright cruel to ourselves. Love ourselves. Be kind.
OK so the spider didn't make it, but we can. We can be more kind to one another, to ourselves, to every living thing right? Even if it takes small steps, small measures, it's a step forward. I vow not to kill one spider this week, or buy a plant (i keep murdering them, another story for another day) in fact that can be my random act of kindness this week. #RAKE
We are all works in progress, my hope is that we may all bloom to our full potential, to be our radiant selves, so that our light may brighten others.
A Blooming Yogini is someone on a journey to their authentic self, a union of mind, body and spirit to a more healthy, thriving , and vibrant you.
