Casandra Barnes - The Blooming Yogini
On my drive into Princeton, New Jersey
this weekend, I had to travel through Trenton to get there, and I was fortunate
to see this historic bridge and Trenton's famous slogan: "TRENTON MAKES,
THE WORLD TAKES". What you really need to know about this notorious sign
is that it went up in a time when the city actually did make things.
This sign, as much as it is to be a positive,
resonated in me the fact how many times have we felt that as much good as we put
out into the world, the world sometimes continues to take and maybe leaves us
feeling a little empty. So why do we continue to put ourselves out there
again and again? How do we recharge or refuel when we are feeling empty?
I say give more.
I have found that
even when I'm not having my most stellar of days, if I want to be "good",
-feel better, smile more, look more positively upon my day-, that if I do
something good for someone else -something as small as a smile, hold a door
open, say hello while passing on the street-, I feel good. Seems pretty simple,
maybe I get pleasure out of the small things, but then again maybe you should
try it out for yourself.
Jaunting along the highway seeing that i still
have plenty of gas in my tank for my destination, I question those times when i
myself have felt empty. That time i was looking forward to something and it
didn't go the way i thought it would. That job I really thought i was going to
get. The audition that i thought went so well and didn't even get a call back.
Or i didn't hear the words i wanted to hear, maybe an "i love you", a "thank
you" or even an "I'm sorry". What about those times that you expected nothing
and received those words, how elated were you? -Lose the expectation; lose
disappointment- Reflection at 70 mph can make life pretty clear. We can make our
pain as difficult or as easy as we want it to be.
So I'm still cruising
along this roadway thinking of this bridge, that at this point is speaking
volumes to me, pondering life and the pursuit of happiness, and how far I've
come on my journey not just to Jersey but in my life and how much more there is
to explore and learn, and then I began to think of Mother Theresa and her "do it
"People are often
unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and
some genuine enemies.
If you are honest and sincere
people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.
Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway."
Pretty deep for a neon sign dangling on a bridge, huh? ...So let's wrap up...
We are all works in progress, my hope is that we may all bloom to our full potential, to be our radiant selves, so that our light may brighten others.
A Blooming Yogini is someone on a journey to their authentic self, a union of mind, body and spirit to a more healthy, thriving , and vibrant you.
Live. Love. Bloom.
